FAQs
Q. How do I register?
Registration for Girl Scouting is year round! It’s always a great time to get started – Girl Scouting is 365 days per year! For adults who may be interested in a volunteer role (now or in the future) our council offers monthly training that is absolutely free and conveniently located throughout our 6 counties. Please complete Become a Girl Scout(our online interest indicator form) or contact Rhonda Netzel, Director of Membership, by email rnetzel@gssef.org and we’ll connect you to Girl Scout opportunities and activities in your community.
Q: Should parents/guardians register too?
Yes! It’s a great idea to register with your girl. Girl Scouting offers adults a genuine and powerful way to connect with their girl. Volunteering as a family is not only fun, it’s a great way to give back to your community. Plus, as a parent, you’ll be nurturing a lifelong volunteer.
Who do you want the girl in your life to become? Whether she is 5 or 17, you want her to become self-confident, strong, and compassionate. You want her to respect herself and others, make good decisions, be open to new challenges, and use her skills and talents to make her world a better place. The best part…you can be a part of it with her.
The majority of Girl Scout activities (not all) require adult supervision, so when you are a registered adult member, you have the flexibility to attend too.
Q. Are troops the only way to participate in Girl Scouts?
No. In addition to (or instead of) joining troops, today’s Girl Scouts may register individually or as members of interest groups that explore everything from camping to careers. The Girl Scout program is flexible by design, and it can be experienced by all girls age 5 -17 through Pathways – in small group activities, council and national events, and even international travel opportunities!
Q: What is a Girl Scout Pathway?
Pathways are a more flexible way to be a Girl Scout. Do what you want to do, when you want to do it. With the development of Girl Scout Pathways there are now several flexible ways that girls and adults participate in Girl Scouting. You can get involved by simply matching your expertise, skills, interests, and time to one (or more) Pathways. A girl (or adult for that matter) can enter/experience any Pathway at any time; one at a time, or a few simultaneously – that’s all up to you!

Q: What if I might be interested in becoming an Adult Volunteer?
Girl Scouting could not happen without the commitment of adults—just like you—who serve girls through the different volunteer opportunities available at our council. Whether you choose to work directly with girls or indirectly by supporting those adults who do, as a Girl Scout volunteer you get the opportunity to awaken in girls their personal leadership abilities and the promise to develop to their full potential.
Your calendar is full. You want to help out, but it’s almost impossible to find the time. Don’t panic. You don’t have to give up your life to support your girl.
You can customize you role. From being the “head cheerleader” who encourages and supports her girl, to accompanying the girls on a field trip to a local museum, to helping raise the funds and traveling with a group to a Girl Scout World Center in India – you can use your skills and explore your interests. Here are a few of the many ways you can support your Girl Scout:
- Plan a fun day trip
- Secure a meeting location (Free is best!)
- Set up a phone tree for other parents
- Coordinate transportation for an outing
- Be (or find) a guest speaker on an interesting career
- Teach girls a new skill (something you like…scrapbooking, photography, knitting, cross word puzzles)
- Work with girls at a Cookie Booth (January – February)
- Be the historian…design a photo album, scrapbook, or web site
- Join girls on a field trip, as a chaperone
- Become First Aid/CPR certified (at a Girl Scout council sponsored training session) so that you can support girls on their outings
- Become an advocate in your community for Girl Scouting
- Tell your girl you’re proud of her!!!
