Girl Program

Girl'sGuide BooksThe Girl’s Guide to Girl Scouting comes full of essential information and badge activities – plus girls get to customize their own experience by choosing and adding in additional badge sets. Each Girl Scout level has its own specially designed Girl’s Guide.  All of The Girl’s Guide to Girl Scouting books include six essential elements: a binder; Legacy, Financial Literacy, and Cookie Business badge activities; a detailed diagram showing where girls place the badges, pins, or awards with pride on their vests or sashes; ideas to help; vintage illustrations and quotes from Girl Scout history and an Awards log.

The Girl’s Guide to Girl Scouting books are available for purchase at either of our Council’s Retail Stores.

National Proficiency Badges

In addition to the awards girls are earning through the Journeys, the Girl’s Guide gives the girls the opportunity to earn National Proficiency Badges. There are four kinds of Girl Scout National Proficiency Badges: Legacy, Financial Literacy, Cookie Business and Skill-Building. These badges are earned and girls proudly wear them on the front of their vest. Badge activities are progressive, so girls can build on skills they’ve learned at each level. For instance, when they earn the Artist badge as Brownies, they will add to their experience when they earn the Artist badge as Juniors and up to Ambassadors.

Legacy Badges

The Legacy Badges are based on activities that Girl Scouts have been doing since 1912. There are seven groups of Legacy Badges: Artist, Athlete, Citizen, Cook, First Aid, Girl Scout Way, and Naturalist. These badges are based upon Girl Scout traditions and offer a variety of choices that will interest every girl.

Financial Literacy Badges

These badges help you learn about money how to make it, how to budget it, how to save it, and how to share it. You can earn the Financial Literacy badge every year you are in Girl Scouts.

Cookie Business Badges

Use all the skills you have learned doing the Financial Literacy badges and use them during the cookie sale to earn your Cookie Business badges. Each year as a Girl Scout, you can earn one Cookie Business badge.

Skill-Building Badges

Depending on what topics interest your girls, you can add more badges! These additional badges come packaged in Skill-Building badge activity sets for Brownies through Seniors. Each set tells you how your girls can earn five different badges. The first sets are coordinated with the National Leadership Journeys:  It’s Your World-Change It!, It’s Your Planet- Love It!, and It’s Your Story-Tell It!

Special for Daisies

There are three steps to earn each petal. Every Flower Friend tells a story about her line of the Girl Scout Law. The first step is to read the story and talk about it, then act out the story. The girls will then do an activity to practice the part of the law they just learned about. Daisies can earn two leaves each year they are a Daisy. There are two kinds of leaves: Financial Literacy Leaves – Money Counts and Making Choices and Cookie Business Leaves – Count It Up and Talk It Up.
