Follow the Journey of Pennies for Girl Scouts of Japan: A Local Girl Scout's Project

A second year Girl Scout, Elisabeth, a member of Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida Troop 21127, is on a humanitarian journey to collect one million pennies for the Girl Scouts of Japan. Her project has been featured on the Girl Scouts of the USA blog as well as a Sun-Sentinel newspaper family/parenting blog.

You can keep up to date on the progress of Elisabeth’s Pennies for Girl Scouts of Japan project by following her journey on a blog that her mother and Elisabeth are authoring. To read and learn more, please click on:

From Elisabeth:
“Being a sister to every Girl Scout” is part of the Girl Scout USA Law. On Friday, March 11, 2011, a terrible earthquake and tsunami brought an unimaginable amount of destruction to the coasts of Japan. Many families are without their homes and the basics of life.

I would like to be “considerate and caring” and “friendly and helpful” by collecting as many pennies as possible to donate to the Girl Scouts of Japan so their scouts can be “courageous and strong” in helping to rebuild their communities. These girls need to have support from us and to know that we are thinking about them.

A million pennies may seem like a lot – $10,000 in fact – but we all have jars, cups, and piggy banks that hold lots of pennies we don’t do anything with. Please consider donating those pennies to this worthy cause.

I had over 900 pennies in my piggy bank to start this journey. My mommy and daddy donated their pennies too.

Please follow my journey at www.1000000forJapanGS.wordpress.com. It is a blog my mommy started to record our activities and to keep a count of how much I raise for my sister girl scouts in Japan.
