At Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida, there is nothing we take more seriously than the safety and well being of our Girl Scouts, volunteers and council staff. We have been closely monitoring the information regarding the COVID-19 virus through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local, state and national public health officials. As new information is being reported daily, we will remain fluid in our planning and scheduling. We will take all possible and appropriate measures to ensure girls continue to have a safe, fun, one-of-a-kind experience at Girl Scouts.

Types of Programs
Entrepreneurship

Helping girls enter the business and entrepreneurial workforce is beneficial for girls and the world. If girls are left out of the entrepreneurial space, they can suffer from long-term financial and career consequences. But when girls’ and women’s ideas for how to change the world are put into action, the economy gains revenue and society gains ingenuity. Encouraging girls’ interest in entrepreneurship prepares them for any future career of their choosing. The social and emotional qualities that lead to successful entrepreneurship, like curiosity, confidence, and innovation, are crucial for all types of academic and career success. Building these skills prepares girls for workforce readiness no matter where they go or what they decide to do.

For more information about Entrepreneurship programming, contact Destiny Oakley, Girl Experience Manager at doakley@gssef.org.

Outdoors

Since 1912, girls have explored and strengthened their outdoor skills and commitment to environmental stewardship through Girl Scouting. Guided by supportive adults and peers, Girl Scouts discover the wonders of nature, experience the thrill of adventure, and challenge themselves and one another to reach new heights. These experiences hone their outdoor and leadership skills, inspire them to take action to protect the environment, and reinforce friendships to last a lifetime.

For more information about Outdoor programming, contact Kate Goosey, Outdoor Program and Education Manager, at kgoosey@gssef.org.

Life Skills

Girl Scout badges, beginning with Civic Engagement and expanding to Healthy Living, Communication Skills, Practical Skills, and Global Citizenship, form the foundation of activities that help girls grow as Girl Scouts. Whether it’s by exercising and staying healthy, developing strong relationships with family and peers, advocating on behalf of others, protecting our environment, or exploring careers that can truly change the world for the better, girls gain the skills and the inspiration to accept challenges, overcome obstacles, and take the lead.

For more information about Life Skills programming, contact Kaley Homan, Girl Experience Manager, at khoman@gssef.org.

STEM

Girl Scouts provides countless opportunities for young girls to jump into STEM and explore their interests and passions with fun, challenging activities like building robots, designing apps and video games, and collecting data to help scientists protect the environment. Because interest in STEM begins in early childhood (between the ages of five and ten5 ), Girl Scouts’ “fun with purpose” K–12 curriculum helps bridge the gender gap by ensuring that girls of every age have opportunities to participate in progressive, multiyear STEM experiences. Indeed, girls who participate in Girl Scout STEM programs become more confident in their math and science abilities and more interested in STEM subjects and careers.

For more information about STEM programming, contact Ally Hackett, Director of Girl Experience, at ahackett@gssef.org.

Parents can register girls, too!

That’s right! Individual families or individually registered Girl Scouts can register for Girl Scout programs anytime. Check out our Registration Guide (coming soon) to learn how to register for programs today!

Adults and Tagalongs

Adult Supervision expectation: GSUSA establishes adult supervision requirements for Girl Scout activities. When program capacity is limited, adult spaces may be restricted to GSUSA minimum requirements to allow for maximum girl participation. Adults registering for this program acknowledge they will be required to provide adult supervision to girls participating in this program. Additional adults, in excess of GSUSA requirements, may register and participate in programs when program capacity permits. Detailed, program-specific supervision expectations will be provided to registered participating adults in the Program Confirmation email sent prior to the program.

Tagalongs: A tagalong is any person who is not affiliated with Girl Scouts, but who is along for the activity. Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida offers Girl Scout membership programming year-round. While most of our programs do not permit tagalongs for safety and security purposes, we offer family events throughout the year.
