Peer Support Through Troops and Service Units

Being part of Girl Scouts means no one has to go it alone. Whether you're a new troop leader, a seasoned volunteer, or somewhere in between, there's a strong network of support ready to help. Through peer connections in your troop and service unit, you’ll find guidance, encouragement, and a shared sense of purpose that makes the journey even more rewarding.

Troop Leaders are at the heart of the Girl Scout experience, but they’re never in it alone. Each troop is backed by a team of volunteers who help things run smoothly, provide guidance, and share the load. Some of the key support roles include:

Troop Co-Leader – Shares leadership duties with the main Troop Leader, helping with meetings, planning activities, and managing communication with families.
Troop Treasurer – Manages the troop’s finances, tracks expenses, and ensures that money earned through cookie sales or other efforts is used wisely.
Troop Cookie Chair / Fall Product Manager – Coordinates the troop’s participation in council-led product programs, handling orders, deadlines, and training.
Troop Chaperones / Drivers – Assist with field trips and outings, helping maintain safety ratios and transportation logistics.
Troop Helpers – Lend a hand with specific tasks like prepping supplies, organizing badge work, or supporting special events.

Each role helps create a stronger, more sustainable troop experience—so leaders can focus on what matters most: building girls of courage, confidence, and character.

Service Unit Support toggle arrow

Service units are local, geographically defined areas with a volunteer leadership team that supports troops and girls within their community. Service Units provide an extra layer of peer support, training, and connection.

Best Practices:

Meet your volunteer service unit manager and leadership team
Attend monthly service unit meetings
Participate in service unit-sponsored programs and events
Attend service unit trainings, especially for the Fall Product and Cookie Sales!
