After completing the prerequisite course, Introduction to Paddling, you can further your canoeing knowledge with Level 1 Canoe Training and get out on the water leading Girl Scouts in flat water, canoeing fun. Level 1 Canoe Training is required to lead canoeing activities at programs, camporees/in-gatherings, and taking your troop flat water canoeing. There will be a quiz at the end of the training to check your knowledge of the material covered before the trainer will sign your GSSEF Training Card. A GSSEF Training Card will be provided; if you have a card from previous GSSEF trainings, please bring it with you so all your training is documented together.
All participants must wear closed-toe, closed heel shoes with socks while walking around the camp property. Please dress with the weather in mind and bring extra clothes in case you get wet while on the lake. Participants will need to bring water shoes or old sneakers that can get wet to wear while canoeing, a day bag (backpack) with bug spray, sunscreen, refillable water bottle, and hat/sunglasses.
Participants will need a packed lunch and snacks to enjoy during the lunch break.
Prerequisite course, Introduction to Paddling, must be completed before you can attend Level 1 Canoe Training to hone skills and knowledge to ensure a safe canoeing experience for the Girl Scouts you will lead in canoeing activities. Introduction to Paddling will be held at Camp Welaka on 10/23/21.
