Some courses may be assigned to you by virtue of your volunteer role (Troop Leader, Service Unit Volunteer, Product Sale Manager, etc.). These will be found directly on your gsLearn dashboard.
Occasionally a course assigned to you might be mandatory and/or have a time limit for completion (example: New Leader Training), but most courses are available to you without conditions.
Courses and learning paths in the Content Library can be filtered by category or topic, or searched if you know the name of the course.
The Content Library also contains Movement-wide courses and learning paths created by GSUSA that may enhance your learning experience.
When completing a course it may be paused, stopped, and restarted as needed without losing your progress.
Every effort will be made to have an accurate record of each learner’s essential course completions and certifications available to view in gsLearn, based on current data. However, adding those records will take time and we thank you for your patience as we continue to upload records over the coming months.
Yes. You may upload completion certificates for courses not taken through GSSEF to gsLearn through the External Learning tab in Achievements. Your external courses will be viewable in Achievements separately from your regular gsLearn course completions.

As a troop leader, keeping your Girl Scouts safe is one of your most important responsibilities—and you're not alone! Safety Activity Checkpoints are your go-to resource for planning safe, fun, and age-appropriate activities. Whether you're organizing a hike, a trip, or a badge workshop, these guidelines provide clear instructions, required adult-to-girl ratios, permission forms, and safety gear checklists to help you lead with confidence. Before any activity, be sure to check the Safety Activity Checkpoints so you and your girls can focus on fun, adventure, and learning safely!
Read or download Safety Activity Checkpoints (updated Fall 2024).
If a Safety Activity Checkpoint does not exist for an activity you and the girls are interested in, check with the council before making any definite plans with the girls. A few activities are allowed only with written council pre-approval and only for girls 12 and over, while some are off-limits completely. If you have a question about a SAC requirement or activity approval, please email [email protected]. You may also consult the GSSEF Volunteer Policies and Procedures and Volunteer Essentials Manual for additional information.
This comprehensive Volunteer Policies and Procedures guide outlines the foundational rules and best practices that guide our volunteer community. It covers essential topics including membership requirements, standards of conduct, financial protocols, guidelines for troop and service unit operations, travel, transportation, social media use, and more. Use this document as your go-to reference for ensuring safe, compliant, and effective Girl Scout programming in Southeast Florida.
Troop First Aiders:
GSUSA defines a “first-aider” as an adult volunteer who has taken Girl Scout approved first-aid and CPR training that includes specific instructions for child CPR, as well as AED (Automated External Defibrillator) training. A “Basic Life Safety (BLS)” certification is not considered an equivalent to a CPR/First Aid certification. Class delivery methods must meet the standards established by GSUSA in the most recent version of the Safety Activity Checkpoints.
GSUSA sets the requirements for CPR and First Aid trainings in the Safety Activity Checkpoints. In response to COVID-19, GSUSA has allowed council’s to approve select online-only CPR and First Aid providers to fulfill the first-aider requirements detailed in the Safety Activity Checkpoints.
GSSEF will now accept online-only American Red Cross Adult, Child & Baby First Aid/CPR/AED certification. This course provides knowledge and skills for emergency life-saving techniques involving infants, children, and adults. This is the ONLY GSSEF-approved online-only course & vendor for instruction; no other online-only classes will be accepted. The cost is currently $37. Please visit Adult, Child and Baby First Aid/CPR/AED Online | Red Cross to register for this online-only class.
Certification Cards need to be printed from the American Red Cross website upon completion of the course. The participant is responsible for printing certification cards as proof of completion of the course for the First Aider role as a GSSEF volunteer and providing the card to [email protected].
In-person First Aid/CPR/AED for Adult & Child training Certifications are still accepted for the GSSEF First Aider role, at this time, in addition to the above online-only option.
***Advanced First Aider: An advanced first aider is an adult with general first aid certification and additional health, safety, or emergency response expertise. For example, a physician, physician’s assistant, nurse practitioner, registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, paramedic, military medic, wilderness training, certified lifeguard, or emergency medical technician (EMT).
